On Friday, more than 20 plastic surgeons from across the country participated in the event organized by King Georges Medical University’s plastic surgery department. They discussed that breast cancer survivors continued to suffer socially and psychologically due to a lack of awareness about breast reconstructive surgery post-mastectomy (removal of a breast following cancer).

Dr. Aditya Agrawal stated that only 1% of such patients in India go for reconstruction surgery. As a result, they suffer from low self-confidence, issues in their marital lives, etc. He added that the issue could be resolved with the help of oncologists.

He explained that before mastectomy, they should be advised that their breasts can be reconstructed by the abdominal fat. He further claimed that breast reconstruction can be twice as beneficial for oversized females who also get tummy tuck surgery mandatorily with reconstruction.
